Dr. Eric Fombonne at the MIND

Dr. Fombonne debunked the autism epidemic myth, and MMR and thimerosal autism causation myths at the UCD MIND institute this evening.
What a guy. (sigh)
This photo was taken after his first presentation (during the intermission, before his second presentation). The woman came to listen to the presentation, the man on the right apparently works for the MIND institute, he introduced Dr. Fombonne's presentations, but Autism Diva doesn't recognize him, and missed the parts where he introduced himself.
Dr. Fombonne's presentations should be available online in streaming video format in a month or two on the MIND institute's website.
If they don't decide to clip the question session from the video of his second presentation, you may get to hear Autism Diva. There was a mercury dad there who decided to do an advertisement for an upcoming conference in Sacramento featuring David Kirby and Dr. Kartzinel and some of what appears to be anti-vax agitprop. After the dad's promoting of the upcoming conference and mentioning that he had distributed fliers with information about the "biomedical" conference right there in the MIND's conference room ... he started to preach thimerosal mythology in a quite rude and righteous-indignation-filled manner ... typical.
After Fombonne nicely answered his points and told the dad he was wrong, Autism Diva took her turn for asking a "question from the audience" and added some more reasons why mercury dad was wrong. Then another parent asked a question and Autism Diva packed her cool red backpack with laptop compartment (in a huff) and walked out (in a huff) in her red, silk brocade Converse high-tops (in a huff).

Autism Diva took this photo to make sure that the camera's flash feature was off so she could get pictures of Fombonne speaking without disrupting the presentation ... but those sure are some pretty shoes. :-)
Thanks, Dr. Fombonne. Thanks MIND institute for hosting him (even though you are part of the problem).

Were do I get those shoes? In turquoise, however.
Autism Diva got the shoes on Converse.com
(she is not a Converse shill and does not receive kickbacks from Converse, though she would consider receiving such...perhaps in the form of shoes)
When Autism Diva ordered these they were available in Plum (the ruby ones) and Kiwi (Lime?). The photo online made the Plum shoes look very red, and the photo of the green ones are very bright green, like Chartreuse almost, so in real life the green ones might be closer to a medium lime .. check Converse.com... they used to have black ones, maybe they'll do another model in turquoise. :-)
Converse.com is a blast if you like converse high tops.
Dr. Eric Fombonne is most cute.
As long as we're being shallow anyway.
Did Autism Diva mention that he has pretty hair?
Not too pretty, but pretty, as in nice, manly nice.... and French .... nice. Beau, if you know what Autism Diva means... :-) Snappy dresser, and he has the best accent.
Autism Diva will from now on pronounce epidemic as "eh PID emic", of course, "awe-tism" is now "oh-TEEZM".
(sigh)
Autism Diva must say though, that the real heart breaker of Fracophone 'oh-TEEZM" researchers is LauRENT MotTRON. (sigh, sigh) Mottron is at the Hopital des Rivieres des Prairies (?) and Fombonne is at McGill with Szatmari. (not so cute, not French)
Autism Diva met Dr. Mottron a year and a half ago. He doesn't have pretty hair like Fombonne, but he's the best homme in autism research, English speaking or French.
http://www.autismealsace.org/bin/mottron.jpg
Mottron has what appears to be an old fashioned dueling scar on the side of his face which is quite, hmmmm, distingue.
He has written a very cutting edge book, but of course, it's in French ...and I think translated into Chinese...
His book is called, "Autism another intelligence". He doesn't think autism is a bad thing, and he's still a big name in autism research. Amazing fellow. The February issue of the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disabilities will be "the Mottron" issue, from what I hear... :-)
Eric Fombonne, is a consultant for Aventis Pasteur in its legal fight against autistic children's families.
At a 2002 IMRAR (International Meeting For Autism Research) conference Dr. Eric Fombonne, an epidemiologist, suggested a 1300% increase in the prevalence of autism over a 25-year period, or on average, a doubling of the prevalence of autism every two years between 1976 and 2001!
Autism Diva is guessing that you weren't there at the IMFAR conference in 2002.
It doesn't matter what he said in 2002. Not in the least, but even so, it's very likely that you are entirely wrong in your statement about what he said back then.
Fombonne is THE expert in the whole world on autism epidemiology. He is the only person who can credibly state epidemiological facts about autism in many countries.
The parents who want to push the absolute lie of the autism epidemic into the court system need to be contradicted. Why shouldn't they be contradicted? The epidemic is a fabrication, a falsehood, an illusion, a lie even, depending on who is saying it.
It doesn't matter if you all stomp your feet and point at ginned up figures from the IDEA stats or Cal DDS stats. They are nothing. There's no THERE there.
Scream bloody murder, howl conspiracy!!! It won't change reality.
All you need to do is go online and get the IDEA figures yourself and then notice what happened in 1992 when the feds added autism and traumatic brain injury in the same year... there was an "ehPIDemic" in both, with the ehPIDemic in traumatic brain inury being worse than that of autism.
NO one around the world is buying this ehPIDemic garbage. You need to cope with that. Sorry, but that's it.
If the parents and their lawyers involved in the suing the vaccine program or whoever think they can prove an epidemic in a court of law, they are totally out of touch with reality. Looney, for lack of a nicer word.
777 persons, you need to go defend your science on Kevin's blog or you prove you have none on your side.
At the recent IMFAR (International Meeting For Autism Research) Conference, noted autism epidemiologist Dr. Eric Fombonne stated in his presentation that based on 50 previously published epi studies of autism, the prevalence rate of autism had been established, by his work and others, at between 2 to 10 per 10,000...which is to say as low as 1-5000 or as high as 1-1000 (Fombonne's own past studies reported the lower end of the prevalence spectrum). In a monumental statement at IMFAR, Fombonne now claims, as a result of his most recent work, that the prevalence of autism is 68 per 10,000 or 1-147.
Fombonne's latest work shows that the prevalence of autism has increased between 600% and 3400% (1-1000 down to 1-147 = 600% increase) and (1-5000 down to 1-147 = 3400% increase). Using the middle ground of 5 per 10,000 or otherwise stated as 1-2000, the most recent epi study by this most conservative autism epidemiologist would now suggest a 1300% increase in the prevalence of autism over a 25 year period, or on average, a doubling of the prevalence of autism every two years between 1976 and 2001
Dr. Fombonne is a consultant for a pharmaceutical company (conflict of interest),and said their was an autism epidemic in 2001 but now acording to you he is saying their is no autism epidemic.
Something is fishy here.
Mr. Rollens, is that you? You can use your real name here, it's safe....
777-300, it's really sleazy to quote people without citing the source. Actually, it's calle plagiarism.
A researcher at the MIND recently told Autism Diva that he or she (who will remain anonymous) knew that Rick Rollens was "a politician". Not literally of course, but Rollens manipulates the facts like a politician does.
Why don't we let Fombonne, cute and smart guy that he is speak for himself?
"oranges, with sheep" .
In his presentation at the MIND this week he used the more prosaic, "apples and oranges".
Autism Diva is so disappointed that you can't understand this 777-300, but do try to read the article that features Sally (Sallie) Bernard and Fombonne, both. In the future write your comments yourself or cite the source of your comments, please?

Did Fombonne say we had an epidemic 2001? Yes or no? Never mind the source.
Fombonne never said there was an epidemic ever. What's the matter? Can you not read what he said in the WebMD article?
"oranges, with sheep" there's your answer. Assuming that you have an IQ higher than a toaster, which you surely do, this should not be too hard to figure out.
Other than that, you could try e-mailing Dr. Fombonne yourself and ask him.
Then ask Rollens why he so disgustingly twisted what Dr. Fombonne said in 2001.
Are you saying that Rollens libeled Fombonne, or are you libeling Rollens?
You might have missed something when you heard him speak. You did go out in a huff after you couldn't control the question and answer session.
You wonder why people like Erik and others don't post on your blog?
There's no libel in saying that Rollen's disgustingly twisted what Fombonne said. If Fombonne said nothing vaguely like there was an epidemic... go ahead an email him, I'm sure you can do that... then the explanation is that Rollens' misreported what he heard, or wasn't paying attention... odds are that he deliberately twisted what he heard to create the image that Eric Fombonne had said there had been an epidemic.
Odds are that way because Rollens behavior is exactly that of a politician, even though he hasn't been an elected politician he was in the employ of elected politicians... and someone who basically likes Rollens, a MIND researcher called Rollens "a politician"... the context of that discussion was the way Rollens misrepresents the Cal DDS numbers every quarter.
Heads up, don't ever call Autism Diva a rotten name like you did in your previous post, the one that won't be released from moderation.
Autism Diva has never wondered by Erik Nanstiel doesn't post here. Autism Diva reads what Erik writes and it's really pointless.
Why don't you go debate science on Kevin's board, you signed in, there's plenty of good discussion going on there, you can rave about Fombonne there, too.
The MIND institute should post both of Fombonne's lectures to the internet via streaming video within the month. You can hear yourself what happened. A mercury dad monopolized the first 5-8 minutes of the second question session... we'll see the timing on that if they don't cut it out ... he was rudely doing a commercial for the upcoming FEAT biomed conference addressing the audience and not asking a question as he was supposed to andt hen he turned to accusing Fombonne to his face of being a part of that "worldwide conspiracy" to protect thimerosal manufacturers or whatever it is... he ranted on about several points until the moderator person asked him to pick one of his question/accusations and let Dr. Fombonne answer it. Which Fombonne did. Then Autism Diva was able to correct the mercury dad on a couple points, but she stopped voluntarily so that she didn't monopolize the time. Then she left when others were asking questions that weren't as accusatory and possilbly slanderous as the mercury dad's were. The mercury dad looked like a wingnut, in the opinion of several there. Autism Diva was afraid of being physically harmed by the wingnut and that is one reason she left early.
For the time being because of your foul insulting vocabulary and rude tone, the comment board will remain moderated. Don't expect to see your comments allowed if they are offensive.
Feel free to start your own blog if you need people to read up on your extreme antivax stance or other stuff. That's what blogs are for.
I started to debate science on Kevin's blog and then you stepped in and cried foul with your stupid, baby Einstein was autistic crap!
Seven,
If that's your idea of debating science, you may want to check the definition. If you want to cite Medline instead of Medlin you may get an intelligent response. Give it a try.
to the human being posting as an airliner (777-300):
You might want to read what Dr. Fombonne has published in his numerous papers on the subject of autism. Of the 12 papers in which he studies the epidemiology of autism, he has not once claimed an "epidemic" of autism. He has, on occasion, used those words when quoting people - like yourself - who mistake a rise in reporting with a rise in prevalence.
I'm still waiting for you to stop using invective and start using data - but I'm not holding my breath.
Instead of quoting people's websites and lecture presentations, how about running a few numbers by us?
Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I can't help thinking that eventually someone will provide the hard data to back up all the vigorous assertions I keep hearing (and reading). After all, you wouldn't be so absolutist if you didn't have any data, right?
Waiting for the data....and Godot.
Prometheus.
