It's good to be Skeptico

Skeptico on the Bobby Kennedy Jr. Salon.com/Rolling Stone article. "Robert F. Kennedy Junior’s completely dishonest thimerosal article"

There's more at Orac Knows, too.

Autism Diva doesn't like to do name calling, but it's really hard not to call Bobby Kennedy Jr....something!

Please go read the article on the Skeptico blog. Autism Diva has read most of the Simpsonwood Transcript but for now can only say that it looks like they were confused, that the data was incomplete and confounded, and that it happened FIVE years ago!

We have more data now and it doesn't show a linkage.

If the vaccine theorist lawyers had anything real to work with they would not need to promote this ancient text AND misquote it.

This is such a pointless waste and such a needless and callous attempt at fear mongering.

One can only hope that someone will sue somebody for all of this abuse of free speech.

Autistic human beings are being used as pawns in somebody's stupid game.

Uggh, and would you believe that this Vaccines Are Baaaad garbage was on MONTEL today?! I've always been a bit conflicted about Montel. Most of the time, I rather like him (as far as liking exploitative tv talk show host goes, at least) and really respect some of the work he's done on medical issues and advocating for legalizing medical use of marijuana. But then he does that KREEPY Sylvia Brown (Browne?), Psychic Detective, thing once a week and freaks me the heck out and I decide he's just as bad as the rest of the hosts. But, excepting the KREEPY psychic, I usually think he's pretty decent.

And then I saw this garbage today. And suddenly, all of his previous moments of "passion" and "raw emotion" seemed as scripted and fake and refutable as topic. I should have paid more attention so I could rip it apart after, but I was too annoyed and went back to watching Chicago Hope, instead. BOOO for reporting on make-believe.

Hi,

Autism Diva watched half of it or maybe more. Her family members didn't want to hear Autism Diva growling, "IDIOT!", to the people on the television, and besides that - it was way to painful to watch.

There were expressions on Lyn Redwood's face and David Kirby's face that were almost, like they knew that Montel was playing some kind of demented ring-master crossed with a Johnny Cochrane type lawyer.

Later Autism Diva thought about how hysterically stupid Montel was to say to this couple,
'SO YOU HAVE 2 NORMAL KIDS AND 2 AUTISTIC KIDS.
AUTISM MUST NOT BE GENETIC! - OTHERWISE! WHY WEREN'T ALL YOU KIDS AUTISTIC? HUH?!!"

Man, even David Kirby isn't THAT dumb.

Thanks for commenting on the Montel show. Autism Diva shudders every time she thinks about it.

Apparently there was a doctor on later who tried to contradict some of the garbage, but Autism Diva didn't see him.

I've had four children, two in the United States, two in Australia. Only one is autistic. With that birth (which was a complicated one; baby was breech), I had a medically indicated epidural, but not with the others. Epidurals became super popular in the 1990s, the same time as autism "suddenly increased". Therefore, it's OBVIOUS that the cause of autism is epidurals!

That argument makes just about as much sense as the ones I've seen for "austism is caused by vaccinations".

I'm glad I discovered your blog. I'll be dropping around from now on to see what you're up to.

I have 3 children only one is autistic. All 3 children have the same mother and father both from families with no history of autism.
All 3 children had unremarkable pregnancies, no use of epidurals or drugs during delivery and no complications. The only variable is that my middle child was born in Malaysia where he had a vaccine schedule that was much more aggressive than the vaccine schedule my other children had. In fact after one of his vaccinations at 8 weeks old his sixth injection he had a fit. I was told not to worry and he would probably never have another fit & his Dr was right he never did have a fit again. However no one can tell me that the vaccinations didn't have something to do with his autism. I repeat I have 3 children and the only child that has autism is the one who had multiple vaccinations at a very early age one batch which resulted in him having a fit. To say it is purely genetic is CRAP and cases like my family proves it.
